Gippsland Flood Community Recovery Fund launched

The Fund

The Gippsland Flood Community Recovery Fund was jointly established by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments to assist the communities' recovery from the effects of the June/July 2007 flooding in the Gippsland region .

Victorian Government $72.6M flood recovery package

On 10 July 2007, the then Premier, Mr Steve Bracks, and the Treasurer, Mr John Brumby, announced that more than $72.6 million will be provided to help Gippsland residents recover from the floods. The recovery package includes:

  • Over $40 million to rebuild damaged roads and bridges,
  • Over $20 million to enable DSE and CMA's to undertake clean-up works, such as repairing roads and tracks, debris removal and fencing repairs and replacement,
  • Over $3 million for new Local Government infrastructure projects to improve streetscapes and upgrade community halls,
  • A $545,000 tourism package to encourage tourists back to the region, and
  • $445,000 for flood warning systems for the Macalister, Avon and Thomson rivers.
