Victorian Government $62m recovery package

On 10 July 2007, the then Premier, Mr Steve Bracks, and the Treasurer, Mr John Brumby, announced that more than $62 million will be provided to help Gippsland residents recover from the floods. The recovery package includes:

  • Over $30 million to rebuild damaged roads and bridges,
  • Over $20 million to enable DSE and CMA's to undertake clean-up works, such as repairing roads and tracks, debris removal and fencing repairs and replacement,
  • Over $3 million for new Local Government infrastructure projects to improve streetscapes and upgrade community halls,
  • A $545,000 tourism package to encourage tourists back to the region, and
  • $445,000 for flood warning systems for the Macalister, Avon and Thomson rivers.

Since then, a further $10 million has been allocated for roads and infrastructure.
