Roads/Transport restorationParks closedAccess to a number of national parks in Gippsland may be limited or not available because of the impact of the floods and fires. The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) and Parks Victoria staff have been working solidly in a massive effort to assess, repair and re-open forest roads and tracks affected by the fires and floods. They will recover and it is recommended that people seeking to use the parks go to the Parks Victoria website and click on ‘Before you go' for the latest information. The website is www.parkweb.vic.gov.au For current flood and severe weather warnings visit the Bureau of Meteorology website . Seasonal Road Closures Roads and tracks in parks and forests throughout Victoria are seasonally closed during the year, especially in winter, to protect track surfaces, water quality and the environment and to ensure driver safety. Seasonal road closures are made and enforced under the National Parks Act and the Forests Act. Regular patrols are made to ensure that closures are complied with. The roads to be closed are scheduled each year by Parks Victoria and the Department of Sustainability and Environment after consulting Four Wheel Drive Victoria and other key user groups. Most winter closures on bush tracks take effect from the week after the Queens Birthday long weekend in June and remain in force until the Melbourne Cup Day long weekend . It may also be necessary to temporarily close tracks for short periods outside these dates depending on weather and track conditions. FOR ROAD CLOSURE AND REOPENING INFORMATION PLEASE VISIT www.parkweb.vic.gov.au AND THE VICROADS WEBSITE www.vicroads.vic.gov.au
